Our goal is to nurture a child’s natural desire to learn. We believe that children learn through play. Play includes exploring, talking, thinking, imaging, inventing, giving, sharing, making choices, taking turns, running, skipping, crawling, shouting, singing, role playing, caring, reading, writing, counting, measuring, problem solving, storytelling, laughing and smiling!

ABOUT US

Sunshine Child Development Center was founded in 1989 by Kim Maine, current owner and director of the program. We were originally created to meet the child early development needs of the employees of the several companies in the Quonset Business Park. Within ten years, we outgrew our facility and constructed a larger state of the art center. This center allowed us to create a design to meet the children’s needs and offer optimal educational experiences for children. Our owner and Director also grew professionally. She earned a Masters of Education from Johnson & Wales University with a focus on Early Childhood Education Leadership and Administration. She is very involved in advocacy efforts on behalf of young children as well as an Adjunct Instructor at the Community College of Rhode Island. Her passion for early childhood education resonates to the staff, children and families in the program.

The sun does indeed shine bright at Sunshine Child Development Center! Thank you for your interest in our program. We are a proud 4 star Bright Star program offering education and child early development for children six weeks to five years old as well as an out of school time program for children attending the North Kingstown school district. As a five star program, our lead teachers meet high quality educational qualifications in early childhood education. We meet high quality standards for our curriculum framework and assessment of the children’s learning development and meet high quality standards for health and safety. We offer a caring, nurturing, safe and inclusive environment.
